Trap Release

The trap vise method is a great tool to help release tight muscles near the shoulders and neck. Place a ball tennis or lacrosse ball underneath the meaty area of the trap. Once in place take something to vise the muscle on the top side of where the ball is placed. Hold for a bit and then move around until release is felt.

Trap Release

How to perform:

Trap Release

Grab a ball (can be a tennis, lacrosse, or accumobility ball) and place it underneath the upper trap while lying on the ground. The ball should not be putting any pressure on the bone of the shoulder blade, but it also should not be too far up to the point where it can be seen from directly above. Once the ball is correctly in place, grab an object (preferably smooth; not sharp) to vise the trap between the ball and the object, applying pressure on top of the trap until it releases. Slowly twisting the object clockwise to counterclockwise, or sliding it around by millimeters can add even more intensity to the release. Make sure that the object being used on top is directly on top of the object on the bottom. Once the first side has released, move the ball to the other trap and repeat the vise method.

Protocol:

Complete 1x per side holding for 60-90 seconds or until release is noticed
